Based in Hong Kong and originally from New Zealand, Joanna began her career as a corporate lawyer over 20 years ago. She worked for international law firm Simmons & Simmons in Hong Kong and London before moving into in-house roles with multinational companies. During the financial crisis of 2008, as legal counsel, she led the separation of the insurance group AIA from its mother company AIG and the complex pre-IPO restructuring that followed. Her success is attributed to the strong leadership she displayed across functions, overseeing 14 operating units across the region during that time. Joanna has been a departmental head and adviser to senior to C-level executives.
As a coach, Joanna facilitates group coaching and leadership programs. She has coached senior executives in the legal, financial, luxury, consultancy and education sectors in Asia, Europe and the United States.
Joanna is also an active voice for gender equality and has mentored for The Women’s Foundation (Hong Kong) and HKU’s female MBA students. As a member of “Women on Board” of the French Chamber of Commerce, she co-leads the United Nations HeforShe movement in “Corporate Hong Kong” in partnership with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, engaging C-Suite executives in the gender dialogue. She was further listed as a 2017 “Woman to Watch” by The Women’s Foundation.
Joanna serves as a board member of the International Coach Federation (ICF) Hong Kong chapter and has recently launched a community pro-bono program to share the power of coaching with local non profit organisations.
